The UMC Utrecht CF Center has been given the NCFS seal. Care for patients with cystic fibrosis, including method of communication by healthcare professionals, availability and compliance with cleaning procedures and continuity of care (from child to adult) meets the quality standards of the Dutch Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (NCFS).

Patients who present to their primary physician with chest pains can now be seen as soon as the next day in the DH&L Cardiology Rapid Diagnosis Clinic where they will receive a full heart examination, diagnosis and management plan within one day.

ICDs

While the DH&L implanted only 100 ICDs in 2005, this number rose to 346 in 2013. This increase can be attributed to various factors. The Division uses the latest advanced techniques, thus delivering the highest standard of care and also performing international research. Moreover, treating cardiologists spend significant care and attention to direct communications with referring doctors.

Lung transplantations

The DH&L performed in 2013 32 lung transplantations, which is an all-time record. Complex transplantations such as those of the heart and lungs require smooth and extremely professional multidisciplinary team work.

Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs)

The extreme shortage of donor hearts and the fast innovations in the field of mechanical support for the heart has allowed more frequent use of LVADs in patients with end-stage heart failure. The DH&L implanted 26 LVADs in 2012 and 32 in 2013. In parallel, the DH&L is researching the use of LVADs as a successful life-saving therapy.
