The year 2013 at the Cardiology Department was marked by investing in the future. Investing in the care we give our patients by offering new treatments. Investing in cutting edge research that allows us to build further on the progress we have already made by generating significant research results, eventually creating optimal treatment solutions for our patients. And investing in good quality education to allow today's students to become our talented colleagues in the future.

The UMC Utrecht was granted the JCI accreditation in 2013, which means that the Cardiology Department now also meets international quality standards in the field of care, research and education. This was also an investment in the future, because quality is never a finished product - we can always improve.

At the Cardiology Department, we fulfil our ambitions together. We work hand-in-hand with other departments at the UMC Utrecht, and we collaborate with renowned national and international institutions. I hope that all of us can continue working together next year, in an equally motivated manner.
